Notice for Windows 7 users

Some people have had difficulty using the software under Window 7, especially on the 64 bit version of that platform.

I have had some feedback from a ScriptMaker user who has apparently succeeded in running ScriptMaker on the 32 bit version of Windows 7 by running it under "Windows XP Service Pack 3 compatibility mode".

What follows is an experiment aimed at 64-bit Win 7 users

Updated: 12.8.11 I have now purchased a new PC, running Win 7, 64-bit. With a little effort and feedback from users I have managed to get ScriptMaker working under Win 7, or at least it appears to be functioning correctly - it really requires more testing to be certain, so I'd be grateful for any feedback.

However, I am now extending the experiment to all three items of software and we'll see how it goes...
  1. Log in as the administrator on your PC.
  2. Download one of the following files, depending on what you are interested in:

    ScriptMakerFiles.ZIP
    SLangFiles.ZIP
    StoryboardToolsFiles.ZIP

(note these are NOT the usual files. They don't have an installer, so you will have to do it manually)
  3. Under C:\Program Files (x86) create a folder called "ScriptMaker", "SLang 2" or "Storyboard Tools"
  4. Extract the files from the ZIP archive into this new folder.
  5. Give full access permissions to the Users Group for that folder (Right Click -> Properties -> Security -> Select "Users" Group -> Edit -> Check "Full Control" -> Save).
  6. For ScriptMaker users: It's easy then to manually create a desktop shortcut to launch the program and to set up a file association by right clicking an OOS file, selecting "Open With" then navigating to ScriptMaker.exe with the Browse button.
  7. Set the Compatibility mode for the .exe file to XP Service Pack 2

As I said before, I would be grateful for some feedback from Win 7 users - especially those using 64 bit platforms - who have tried this technique. Does it work?

For the benefit of other users, please let me know.
